kappa alpha theta philanthropies
For the past 25, years Thetas have stood with Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) to impact the lives of foster children. As an organization of women committed to spreading the widest influence for good, we have contributed millions of dollars over the years to local and National CASA programs as well as countless volunteer hours. It has been an amazing 25 years, but our work is not done. In fact, it may only be just beginning. Former CASA CEO Michael Piraino was quoted saying, "Now that we know the number of children in care is rising again, it looks like a perfect storm: less money for services, but more children, from more difficult circumstances, coming into care."
The Zeta Sigma Chapter here at ONU supports the local Findlay chapter of CASA, Voices for Children. Kappa Alpha Theta holds 3 major events to support CASA each year along with other smaller events. This past semester alone, Theta raised $1,750 for CASA.

Founded in 1960, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation was the vision of Evelyn Widman Tunnicliffe, Eta/Michigan, Theta Foundation's first president appointed by Grand Council. Her vision was to put Fraternity "ideals into action" by helping individuals realize their fullest potential through rehabilitation, education, and involvement. Thanks to her commitment and the support of members who follow in her footsteps, the legacy of Evelyn Widman Tunnicliffe and her love for Kappa Alpha Theta carries on through the work of Theta Foundation.
Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable and educational tax-exempt organization, independent from the Fraternity, whose mission is to secure and manage resources for the educational, leadership, and philanthropic programs of the Fraternity and for the scholastic, professional, and service pursuits of its members to help them reach their fullest potential and make a difference in the world. Created by Thetas for Thetas, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is dedicated to raising money for scholarships, educational and leadership grants, and financial hardship grants for our Kappa Alpha Theta members.
Awarding more than $1 million annually, what began in 1960 as a means of raising funds to support the philanthropic and educational opportunities for members of the Fraternity continues today as a pillar of support for its individual members, chapters, and the Fraternity at large.
Since Theta Foundation's establishment in 1960, it has relied on the generosity of individual members, parents, friends of the organization, and college and alumnae chapters to assist in furthering the philanthropic aims of Kappa Alpha Theta. Individual members are encouraged to support Theta Foundation through annual, major and planned gifts. These gifts are tax-deductible as allowed by the law. Individual members can establish named endowed funds to support scholarships and educational and leadership grants through gifts of cash, securities, and property.
Chapters can support Theta Foundation through their annual fundraisers by sharing a portion of their proceeds with Theta Foundation. Like individuals, they can also establish named endowed funds. Alumnae chapters are required to make an annual unrestricted donation to Theta Foundation and a restricted gift to the Friendship Fund. College chapters are encouraged to give a gift annually and must to do so to be eligible for the Fraternity's top convention awards.
In return, Theta Foundation supports the Fraternity, helping to make the Fraternity's educational and leadership programs possible through an annual grant. This allows the Fraternity to direct resources to other important programming. Theta Foundation's vision is to one day be able to give every Theta every opportunity to make a difference. For this reason, the Fraternity and its members recognize the importance of supporting Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation in promoting our values of highest scholarship and widest influence for good.
